Hamilton-Clear Lake Pike Program

Northern pike were sampled in March at Hamilton and Clear lakes by the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW).  The purpose of the project was to determine if trap nets would be an effective technique to capture pre-spawn pike and to summarize pike population statistics   From March 5-15, 2012 the DFW captured, marked, and released 935 pike at Hamilton and 66 pike from Clear.  Hamilton Lake pike averaged 23.6 inches (range: 18.0 to 33.5 inches) while Clear Lake pike averaged 25.4 inches (range: 11.3 to 40.4 inches).  Hamilton and Clear lakes were chosen to kick off this project since they have traditionally supported two very different pike populations.   More...

Wakeboarding and Teak Surfing illegal in Indiana

Indiana Conservation Officers would like to inform the public that starting July 1st, 2011, new laws go into effect which will restrict “Wake Surfing” or “Teak Surfing” behind certain motorboats.

Teak Surfing became illegal behind all motorboats powered by an inboard engine, an inboard / outboard engine, or an outboard engine while the boat is underway at any speed or running at idle. Wake surfing also became illegal behind an inboard / outboard or an outboard motorboat. Additionally, it will be illegal to swim, float, or float on a board in the wake directly behind an inboard / outboard or an outboard motorboat that is underway. Wake surfing behind an Inboard motorboat will still be legal, as it has been for some time.  More....
